East Wenatchee man is stabbing suspect

VANTAGE — A 24-year-old East Wenatchee man was arrested after police said he stabbed his ex-girlfriend and then threatened to jump from the Vernita Bridge.

Noel Rosas was taken into custody about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after an incident that closed the bridge for about four hours, according to Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers.

The woman, Emily Van Osten, 21, of Yakima, was in serious condition this morning at Harborview Medical Center, a sheriff’s office new release said.

She was stabbed with a knife about 2 p.m. during a child exchange at a gas station in Vantage. Authorities took custody of the two children, ages 2 and 4. The press release did not say that they were injured.

Rosas fled the scene but his vehicle was located at a rest area near the Vernita Bridge about 4:30 p.m, Myers said. That bridge is on Highway 24 over the Columbia River about 10 miles south of Mattawa.

Rosas ran onto the bridge where he threatened to jump, the press release said. Traffic was shut down and crisis negotiators worked with Rosas for about four hours until he surrendered. He was booked into the Kittitas County Jail on suspicion of felony assault charges.
