Pandora was pumping away on my computer this afternoon while I was doing some work related paperwork and, like it tends to do sometimes, it popped up a real gem of an oldie. At this point, I don't remember the song, but the group was the British late 60's/early 70's blues-rock outfit, Chicken Shack. The Stan Webb led outfit wasn't bad (maybe a bit pedestrian), and at the time was very popular in England. But what got me a little bit was the keyboard player. Webb's a pretty good singer and guitar player, but I've always listened to the backing musicians, and the piano didn't stand out, but did the perfect job a "backround" player should do. That's Christine Perfect on keys. She's not the frontman (person?) of the group, but she does play a mean keyboard, another fine example....assuming you can flog your way through Webb's vocal here.....of how well she blended in with the group is here.

That girl could play. Chicken Shack cranked out a couple of English Top-20 LP's, and approached the blueish Fleetwood Mac in popularity....if not skill....and they had 1 (one) major 45 rpm hit. Guess whose singing it?

The rest is of course history. Chicken Shack and Fleetwood Mac, mining the same blues turf (and being label mates), would cross paths (to the extent that Peter Green asked her to play on FM's 2nd lp, "Mr. Wonderful), and John McVie was aparently attracted to what Melody Maker called one of the "top 10 sets of legs in Britain". Marrage insued, she joined John in FM, and the rest is history.
But history not only has an end, it has a beginning.
