A couple of passings

Blog: Music For Old(er) Folks

This is going to be quick, but (with luck), I'll amplify later.
First, Funk Brother Bob Babbit passed away this morning. The Motown bass player became THE go to guy after James Jamerson's drinking got way out of hand. A quick example of his bass playing.....

Bob passed away in Nashville at the age of 74.

Also, Jon Lord, organist and song writer for Deep Purple passed away at age 71.

As much as I like their later stuff, I've always grooved to their version of the old Joe South song. Jon's playing stands out here.

Must admit this has not been a good day for rock and roll music.....

And to put a capper on the day, Kitty Wells, one of the first of the strong lady country singers, who set the mold for people like Loretta Lynn with her seminal 1952 hit "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" passed away Tuesday morning. She was 92.
