'Cats grab all-state soccer accolades

Blog: The World of Sports

Fresh off their third-place Class 3A boys soccer trophy (the first state trophy in program history), the Eastmont Wildcats picked up four all-state awards from the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association, which were announced today.

Midfielder Joel Villa added a Class 3A first team all-state nomination to his Big Nine 3A MVP honors, while fellow junior Mauricio Perez was also named first team all-state as a forward. The pair ranked 1-2 in the Big Nine in goals scored this spring.

The Wildcats' defense also got in on the honors, with sweeper Juan Rodriguez and goalkeeper Daniel Romero, both seniors, taking second-team nominations.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 19-3 overall record and Big Nine 3A title in coach Eric Duffey's second season at the helm of the program. It was the second straight season Eastmont reached as far as the state quarterfinals, yet only two seasons removed from the team finishing 1-13 in Big Nine play in 2010.
